The fun starts for Climb for a Smile in the
lobby of the Bankwest Tower corner of William Street and St Georges Terrace
from 8.30 am Sunday
5 October 2008.
Before that you will have registered online
before Monday 29 September 2008 and paid the very reasonable
entry fee of:
$30 – Adult Entry
$25 – Age 15–17 Entry
$20 – Age 12 to 14 Entry (sorry no climbers under 12)
$20 – Step Into Life Bulk Registration
This fee is to cover all the costs associated with staging the climb –
so to really put a smile on a kid’s face we are asking you to also
fundraise
for our three very worthwhile major Rotary Projects. This can be easily
done online by opening a fundraising page and giving your sponsors access.
You can even link this page to your local Rotary club. There is a prize
for the individual and team raising the most sponsorship so go for it!
The week of the event we will email you your registration time and estimated
start time.
Before that we hope you have been putting in a bit of training, but if
not - don’t worry as this climb can be done by anyone with a bit
of determination (and a few rests on the way up!)
Entry to the lobby will be though the doors facing onto St Georges Terrace
and you will be guided to the registration desk where you will receive
your race number and timing transponder.
You can then prepare yourself, stretch out in the warm up area, drop of
any bags or coats in the property area and send up a quick prayer if you
need to!
We will try our best to get you climbing with your friends and family,
with climbers and teams from the same Rotary Club, Fitness Club or Corporate
Group being started around the same time.
You will be called into the waiting area in groups of eight about 10 minutes
before you head up the stairs and get your instructions on the climb guidelines.
We will also check you have the correct footwear for the climb. Correct
footwear is essential!
Then you can take on the Tower however you want, it’s a fun event
so dress up if you like, stroll, jog or sing your way up the 50 flights
or 1042 stairs to the top of this unique building and get your picture
taken on the balcony with million dollar views. If you need a breather
on the way there will be rest floors for you to take a break on.
You will then return to the lobby by service lift and be free to collect
you race bag from our sponsors, have a drink, check out your time on the
electronic scoreboard, enjoy the entertainment and browse the information
on the Rotary Projects. And take time to Smile because you will have completed
the challenge and you will have contributed to saving and changing lives
in Western Australia, our neighboring countries and throughout the world.
Individual and team prize presentations will take place on stage in the
lobby.
